Local little success story
January 12, 2008
Kalpna Solanki is a mother whose public health and environmental background led her to evaluate all baby food products on the market while her baby was still breastfeeding. Her findings revealed that baby food didn’t seem very creative and was not of the calibre that she wanted for her child. She was uncompromising when it came to the quality of her baby’s nutrition, so when it was time to introduce solid foods, she made everything from scratch using the best quality organic ingredients.
Solanki’s philosophy was that a child’s palette for healthy food is developed within the first 2 years of life. Babies who are given processed foods may dislike healthier food later on making the addiction to sugar, salt and preservatives harder to break. This factor, along with inactivity, has been shown to lead to childhood obesity. Nearly one third of children aged 6-11 are overweight or obese according to The American Obesity Association leading to diabetes, hypertension and other chronic diseases. These conditions, common in adults, now show up in children at higher rates than ever before.Realizing that making meals from scratch is not always possible, in 2004 Kalpna launched BOBOBABY, her concept for the highest quality age-appropriate foods, based on her daughter’s menu plan to reflect a baby’s critical and changed needs from 6 to 9+ months.
BOBOBABY products were the first frozen, organic, kosher, age-appropriate, allergen-free baby foods on the North American market. Although other frozen baby foods were subsequently launched in the US, none offer all aspects of the latest pediatric nutritional science for baby’s first foods. Consequently, BOBOBABY products are truly leading-edge. A recent Consumer Reports study weighed in on the baby food issue - their study found that organic baby food can reduce pesticides in baby’s diet because baby foods are often more condensed.
BOBOBABY is kosher - strict processing standards are followed in their facility. To assure quality, Solanki makes the products herself in her own state-of-the-art plant assuring homemade quality while avoiding the difficulty of quality control assurance.
BOBOBABY is age appropriate - the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding, followed by slow introduction of solid foods. This protects from allergies later on and boosts the child’s immune system.
BOBOBABY is allergen-free - BOBOBABY products are the first baby foods specifically designed to omit the top nine allergens − peanuts, nuts, soy, wheat, sesame, dairy, eggs, fish and shellfish. The BOBOBABY products contain no poultry or meat, nor added salt, sugar, colors or preservatives.
The omission of these ingredients and the Age-Appropriate Food Concept are backed by nutrition research and pediatricians worldwide.
The company’s recipes are simple, yet sophisticated, featuring nutritionally dense powerhouse foods, not traditionally used for baby like high protein quinoa and mango.
BOBOBABY products, now available throughout North America, are available in three phases offering 4 recipes for each phase. Each product contains 12 x 25 ml. portions per tray, 2 trays per package. Please see BOBOBABY for more details and retail outlets.
