Only today we dumped out several flyers – putting them directly into the recycling box. That seems a good thing to do, until you consider how much energy goes into the production and distribution of the brightly coloured, glossy mail, and the energy it takes to recycle. Quite a few Canadians feel this way, in fact, according to the Red Dot website, nearly 70% of us are not interested in mail of this type, and a quarter of us toss it without even a second glance.

Organic sesame seed recall

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume certain pre-packaged and bulk organic sesame seeds because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. CFIA said some of the affected products are pre-packaged and some are in bulk, with a sell date between mid-October of last year and this month.
Campbell behind tougher emission rules

Twelve of the thirteen Canadian premiers are on board for tougher emission standards. The Conservative government announced last week that it is preparing regulations at least as strong as new federal rules in the U.S., which require that vehicle fleets show a 22% improvement in fuel economy by 2020.

Grocery retailer Loblaws – parent company of Real Canadian Superstore - is exploring the idea of adding carbon information to its private label products to show consumers how much carbon dioxide was emitted in their production.
