Another thing to be concerned about…
December 7, 2007
Thousands of people use these everyday and feel good doing it – drinking tap water instead of commercial products, and using a product that won’t find its way to the nearest landfill within the next week.
Nalgene Outdoor, one of the most popular brands of refillable bottles, has been pulled from the shelves of Vancouver’s Mountain Equipment Co-op. This move has been made amidst concerns about the composition of the product, which includes bisphenol A, a component studies link with higher cancer and disease risks. Health Canada is examining the risks but the findings won’t be available until late spring, 2008.
This is an unfortunate turn of events for many reasons, including the fact the Nalgene and Brita have announced a new program aimed at plastics reduction called filterforgood.com, proceeds from which go to support the Blue Planet Run Foundation. If what you think is safe isn’t, then what?
